American Legion Names Speech Contest Winners

Four high school students from the Frisco area were named winners and received $250 college scholarships at the American Legion Post 178 Oratorical Scholarship Contest. The competition was held in the Council Chambers at Frisco’s George A. Purefoy Municipal Center on Saturday, December 12. The four orators will now compete at the district contest in Royse City on January 2, 2021 against other contest winners from the 4th District.
American Legion Post 178 Veteran Achieves Milestone

A 50-year anniversary is a milestone for anyone. It is particularly significant when it involves membership to the American Legion, a military veterans organization. Rich Jochem, a Post 178 Army veteran, recently celebrated his 50-year anniversary as a member of The American Legion.
Color Guard Limited by COVID-19

Because of COVID-19, the Honor/ Color Guard was limited in the number of events for which it was able to present the Colors, but it still conducted 10 events in 2020, about half of which were in the last quarter. The Color Guard presented the Colors at Prestwick Elementary on November 10 for their Veterans Day event, Founders Classical Academy of Frisco for their two Veterans Day events on November 11;
Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee Supports Former Military Personnel

When a veteran settles into life outside of the military, it does not mean he or she has to stop serving. A resident-run committee seeks to show former military personnel how to plug into the community.
