American Legion Post 178 Named Recipient of 2025 BAPS Charities Award

On behalf of Frisco’s Peter J. Courcy American Legion Post 178 Commander Joanne Schumm and Vice Commander-Programs Terry Gilbert accepted the $5,000 2025 BAPS Charities Award. BAPS Charities, a global nonprofit organization, focuses on five key areas: Community Empowerment, Education, Environmental Protection, Health and Wellness, and Humanitarian Relief.

Guided by the motto, “In the joy of others lies our own,” BAPS recognized the American Legion for its longstanding service to veterans, active-duty members, and their families since 1919. The award will support Post 178’s youth programs and initiatives to benefit local veterans and their families.

For over 20 years, BAPS Charities has cultivated this grassroots model, empowering everyday citizens to become changemakers. With more than 1,100 Walk-Runs organized across North America, over the past 20 years, the initiative has built a vast network of civic engagement.
